What is Animal Crossing?

Animal Crossing, the life sim for the Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. The game sees you move into a village populated by animals, Your first few moments are spent working for Tom Nook, but after this inital tutorial like stage, you are free to do what you like.

From fishing to meeting new villagers. Helping out your new neighbours to building snowmen in the winter. There are many more things to do in the game, and you will find that soon you are pulled into the world of Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS introduced the element of online play, where you could visit other peoples towns, send mail, and have fun.

With Animal Crossing for the Wii, the formula remained pretty much the same with a few minor addiotions. The use of the wiiSpeak device allows people to now communicate via speech to each other.

Each AC: GC town is populated with a Shop, a Train Station, a Post Office, a Dump, a Police Station, a Wishing Well, a Museum, a Lighthouse, a Tailor shop and a Dock.

Each AC: WW town is populated with a Shop, a Town Gate, a Town Hall, a Museum including an Observatory and The Roost, the Able Sisters store, and a Barber Shop.

Each AC: LgttC (Lets go to the City in Europe, City Folk in the US) town is popluated with a Shop, a Town Gate, a Town Hall, a Museum, including an Observatory and The Roost, the Able Sisters store and a bus stop to The City.

What can you do at each of these? I hear you ask, well let me tell you.

This is the main place where you will be getting your money from, by buying and selling to Tom Nook. While doing this you will be helping Tom Nook expand his store. When you first start it will be a small wooden store with very little in. As time goes by, Tom Nook will build bigger stores, untill he has a big department store with two levels to it.

The Train Station

Resident in charge - Porter. Hours of business : 24 hours.

This is where you get off the the train to start your adventure. You can use the Train to visit other peoples towns. This is a great way to see new villagers, get items that you may not see in your town, and have more fun with the game.

The Post Office

Residents in charge - Pelly, Phyllis and Pete. Hours of business : 24 hours.

This is where you will go to post letters, pay off your loan to Tom Nook, and deposit money into your account (when you have paid off your loan). The Wishing Well

Hours of business : 24 hours.

This is the place to go to see what shape your town is in. The Wishing Well will tell you if there is something wrong with your town, and what can be done about it. This is also the place where many of the events are held. This is also the place where you will find Tortimer, the Mayor of your town. He can be seen walking around here on special days of the year, Be sure to talk to him, he may just give you a gift.

The Police Staion

Residents in charge - Copper and Booker. Hours of business : 24 hours.

Copper is very friendly and will let you know what is happening in town in the next few days. He will also give you a map of the town. If you enter the Station you will find Booker, and rows of lost items, that you can claim as your own.

The Lighthouse

The lighthouse is there to, well, do what they do, warn boats of the shore. Twice a year Tortimer will go on holiday (vacation) and ask you to turn the lighthouse on for him. If you do this every day, he will give you a special gift.

The Museum

Resident in charge - Blathers. Hours of business : 24 hours.

'We are the [Your town name]
branch of the Farway Museum.

A...miniature version of the
main museum, if you will.
Equally interesting, of course,
but merely a bit more wee.'

So elegantly put by Blathers. He continues:

'Our main purpose is to
provide a place for the
exhibition of items we feel
have some significant...

...paleontological, artistic,
and/or zoological importance,
the collection and
classification of which...

Oh, dear me! I went rambling
on with some awfully painful
explanation again, didn't I?
Confuound this blabbing beak!

My sincere apologies.
I do tend to go on, you know.
It's a rather frightful habit.
Frightful, I say!'

Blathers then elaborates on the role of the museum:

'Ah. Yes. Where was I, then?
We have devoted our space
to four collections of the
very highest order, eh wot?

I myself am responsible for
appraising each fossil,
painting, insect, and fish
that comes through that door.

Through our efforts, we hope
to expand the boundaries of
both knowledge and culture
here in [Your Town Name]

Yes, I believe that sums up
our small role rather nicely.
A tidy little package, eh wot?
I should say so! Hoo!

Now, there is one catch...
Unfortunately, I, Blathers,
am the sole staff member.

And truth be told, I have
my talons full with daily
administrative duties.
Red tape, you know.

It's for this reason that
we must rely on our fellow
villagers for the actual
collection of our pieces.

I trust that we will be able
to rely on your help as well,
[Your Character Name] Donations
are our lifeblood, wot wot!

Er, and by "donations," I
don't mean things you want to
discard just for any reason.
We are quite selective!'

Quite a talker isn't he. Now, for the rest of your time in your town, you can take any item, that is a part of one of the four collections, to the museum to be displayed in one of the four sections. The four collections being, Fish, Insects, Paintings, and Fossils.
Once you have finished your collections, Blathers will reward you with some nice gifts.
